Recording App Screen Videos for mock-ups

💡Purpose

This SOP ensures consistency and quality in-app video recordings, which are used for social media, presentations, and 3D mock-ups.

🫡 Who Can Record?

Any team member, including developers, designers, and other stakeholders, can record app videos following these guidelines.

The Situation:

When designers don’t have video recordings, they often use screenshots. However, screen recordings work best for showcasing apps dynamically!

How Do Designers Do It?

  1. Capture a screen recording of the app in action.
  2. Insert it into a 3D device mock-up.
  3. Add animations to bring the video to life.

What Kind of Videos Are Needed?

Screen recordings where a user interacts with the app naturally.

Important: The recording must be high quality and reflect the experience of a typical user. Please ensure that no development indicators (such as component outlines or debug tools visible in build mode) appear in the video.

Key Tips for Recording: 👀

Show a variety of screens: Include different app sections, such as:

  • A tab with lists
  • A detailed view
  • A map screen
  • The home page
🔑   The key is to showcase different aspects of the app. For example, one video can highlight the home screen, another can focus on a detailed view, and another can demonstrate browsing a list and making a selection. Diversity is essential!

Move quickly: Social media videos are short and fast-paced, so keep the interaction snappy.

⏱️ Keep it short: Aim for a video length of 15-30 seconds.

#️⃣ Amount of videos: 3/4 per app. If the app is built in mobile and desktop, we will require that amount per device.

By following these steps, designers can create high-quality, engaging videos that make apps shine! 🚀
