Beware of scams and phishing

New Hires: Beware Text Scams

NO ONE from management will ever text you asking to buy them a gift card.

This is important to remember in light of a now well-known and notorious scam that preys on newly hired workers.

Here’s how it operates:

  1. Scammers carefully monitor LinkedIn to look for people new and hired to positions at all kinds of companies.
  2. They reach out to those employees via text, referencing the nail of CEO, obtained from LinkedIn, and tell the employees about an urgent assignment.
  3. They claim the assignment requires purchasing a gift card for a kid's birthday party or for a client gift or something similar.
  4. They instruct you to purchase a gift card, send them the code, and turn in the receipt for reimbursement.
  5. Don't fall for it.
