New Hires: Beware Text Scams
NO ONE from management will ever text you asking to buy them a gift card.
This is important to remember in light of a now well-known and notorious scam that preys on newly hired workers.
Here’s how it operates:
- Scammers carefully monitor LinkedIn to look for people new and hired to positions at all kinds of companies.
- They reach out to those employees via text, referencing the nail of CEO, obtained from LinkedIn, and tell the employees about an urgent assignment.
- They claim the assignment requires purchasing a gift card for a kid's birthday party or for a client gift or something similar.
- They instruct you to purchase a gift card, send them the code, and turn in the receipt for reimbursement.
- Don't fall for it.
