How to get started when we're assigned a new app?

Steps to follow when you're assigned a new project

1. Ensure Full Access to Key Platforms

The first thing to do is make sure you have full access to the following platforms:

  • Plutio
  • Scope (in Whimsical)
  • Relevant Slack Channel

Access to these three platforms is ESSENTIAL, as all project-related tasks and communications will be managed. You can find more about the purpose of each platform
here.

2. Find the scope document:

Once you have access, the first thing to do is locate the scope document, which will typically be attached in Plutio under the following column: [Client Input> Refinement Assets].

3. Review the Scope (Whimsical Link)

Open the scope document in Whimsical. While the scope will provide a lot of information about the project, it’s important to keep in mind that it won’t contain everything. Scopes are an overview of the project but are rarely 100% complete.

As the saying goes, “You’ll never be handed a project on a silver platter.” It’s up to us as designers, in collaboration with the assigned Project Manager, to identify and fill in the missing pieces.

⭐️ Tips & steps for reviewing the scope:

  • Read the FULL scope
  • Review ALL assets shared by client
  • Watch the ‘Call Recording with video’: Sometimes this is unnecessary but will provide a lot of context. Check with your PM if this is necessary and worth doing.
  • Before you start writing down questions or adding comments, it’s important to do the following: In the scope document, you’ll find two main sections you'll primarily use: Userflows and Wireflows. Open both Whimsicals and request Edit access, the users that can provide this are Jesus, Valeria, Cecilia, Julia, and Maria. A crucial step is to copy the content from the Userflows section into the Wireflows section. This way, you can make notes and add comments in a single file where everything is easily accessible. During the initial calls with the client, notes will be taken in the Wireflows section. This ensures that when you begin mapping flows and designing screens, you have everything you need in one place.
  • After you have copied the Userflows into the Wireflows, ensure that you have access to the different information of each task in the “Refinement Assets” column. These are all the different documents and information that Diego Tostado (Business Analyst) has gathered during the Refinement Phase. Later, put in contact with your Project Manager to book a call with Diego to discuss any further questions.
Once you have the Userflows added to the Wireflows, you’re officially ready to get started. The first step is to add questions about the Userflows. Watch the following videos for examples of questions we can ask and processes we can follow:
